NON-BREEDING AGREEMENT
TERMS AND CONDITIONS — NON-BREEDING COMMITMENT
The Guardian agrees that the animal will not be bred, mated, or used for reproduction at any time.
SPAY/NEUTER REQUIREMENT
The Guardian agrees to have the animal spayed or neutered (if not already done) by a licensed veterinarian within six (6) months of adoption, to the best of their ability.
If circumstances prevent the procedure from being completed within this period, the Guardian must provide proof that reasonable attempts have been made to schedule and complete the procedure (such as veterinary correspondence or appointment confirmations).
Proof of the completed spay/neuter procedure must be provided to the Shelter if requested.
HEALTH AND CARE
The Guardian agrees to provide:
• Proper nutrition, water, and shelter
• Routine veterinary care, including vaccinations and parasite prevention
• Prompt attention for any illness or injury
HUMANE CARE COMMITMENT
The Guardian agrees not to subject the animal to declawing, debarking, ear cropping, tail docking, or other unnecessary cosmetic or elective surgical procedures, except when medically required and recommended by a licensed veterinarian.
FOLLOW-UP CHECK-INS
The Shelter may request periodic updates or photos of the animal within the first year of adoption to ensure the animal’s ongoing health and wellbeing. The Guardian agrees to provide reasonable cooperation with such requests.
RETURN POLICY
If the Guardian cannot keep the animal or fails to comply with this Agreement, the Guardian agrees to return the animal to the Shelter upon request. The Shelter reserves the right to reclaim the animal without compensation if evidence of neglect is provided.
TRANSFER RESTRICTIONS
The Guardian will not transfer ownership of the animal to another person or organization within the first twelve (12) months following adoption without prior written consent from the Shelter.
After this period, any transfer must still be notified to the Shelter to ensure the animal’s continued welfare.
ONGOING GUARDIANSHIP REVIEW (Optional)
After twelve (12) months, the Shelter may review the placement to ensure the arrangement continues to meet the animal’s best interests.
LEGAL AND FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
The Guardian assumes all responsibility for veterinary bills, damages, or liabilities incurred during the period the animal is in their care.
COMMUNICATION AND SUPPORT
The Shelter encourages the Guardian to contact them for guidance if any behavioral, medical, or financial issues arise that may affect the animal’s welfare. The Shelter may offer advice, resources, or assistance when possible.
ENFORCEMENT
Breach of this Agreement — including breeding the animal, failure to comply with the spay/neuter requirement, or engaging in prohibited procedures — constitutes grounds for the Shelter to reclaim the animal and pursue any legal remedies available under Alberta law.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The Guardian acknowledges that they have read, understand, and agree to comply with all terms outlined in this Agreement.
